BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — A grass fire that ignited Friday afternoon near U.S. 36 between Boulder and Superior is now under control, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire affected approximately 1 to 2 acres of open land north of U.S. 36 and west of South Cherryvale Road. As of 3:50 p.m., emergency crews had managed to contain the flames and were focusing on extinguishing hot spots in the area.

Multiple fire departments, including Mountain View Fire Rescue, responded to the scene. There was visible smoke throughout the area as firefighters worked to secure the fire’s perimeter and mitigate hazards.

Initially, Denver7 reported that no active flames were visible; however, the ground was still emitting smoke. The fire burned through an estimated eight acres of grassland.

Due to safety concerns, Cherryvale Road has been closed between S. Boulder Road and Marshall Road. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
