Hezbollah has launched an intense assault on Israeli artillery positions, marking a significant escalation in tensions between the two nations. Responding to Israeli military strikes in southern Lebanon, Hezbollah confirmed the firing of dozens of Katyusha rockets at enemy targets in northern Israel and the occupied Golan Heights. The barrage of rockets triggered sirens in multiple communities across Upper Galilee, with air defense missiles intercepting some of the incoming projectiles.

The Israeli military reported identifying 40 launches from Lebanese territory, of which some were successfully intercepted while others landed in open areas. Despite the intensity of the attack, there were no reported injuries. Earlier, Hezbollah had deployed two explosive-laden drones into Israeli territory from Lebanon, further fueling the conflict.

Hezbollah and Israeli forces have been engaged in near-daily exchanges of fire along the border since the outbreak of the war in Gaza on October 7. The Iranian-backed Lebanese group, aligning itself with Hamas, has stated its intention to cease attacks on Israel once a ceasefire is reached in Gaza. However, the frequency and intensity of the clashes have raised concerns of a wider conflict.

Lebanon, situated against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict, became the stage for Israeli retaliation as at least five air strikes were launched in southeastern Lebanon on Saturday. Israeli fighter jets targeted a significant military compound operated by Hezbollah, intensifying the already heightened tensions in the region.

With the world bracing for potential Iranian retaliation following an airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Syria that resulted in the deaths of seven armed forces members, including two generals overseeing Lebanon and Syria operations, Israel has declared readiness to counter any Iranian aggression. Foreign Minister Israel Katz warned that Israel would retaliate within Iran if it uses its territory as a launching pad for attacks.

Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant affirmed Israel’s preparedness to defend itself both on the ground and in the air, emphasizing close cooperation with its allies, particularly the United States. As the situation continues to escalate, tensions remain high, and the international community closely monitors the unfolding events in the volatile region.
