Donald Trump Mike Johnson Budget Resolution

WASHINGTON — House Republicans passed a budget resolution early Thursday morning, marking a significant step in their economic agenda after weeks of intense negotiations. GOP leaders believe this resolution could lead to a surge in the economy.

“We were at an inflection point with this bill where you were either going to vote for the largest tax increase in American history or the largest tax cut in American history,” said Republican National Convention Chairman Michael Whatley. He credited President Donald Trump for uniting the party behind the proposal.

House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed optimism, stating that he hopes the budget resolution will reach the president’s desk by the Fourth of July. However, first, the bill must pass through the Senate.

Whatley assured that Republicans are united in their support for the resolution, while Democrats remain firmly opposed. Nevertheless, two Republican representatives did not join their party in favor of the bill.

Trump critiqued those Republicans who did not support the measure, suggesting they might face primary challenges in future elections. “Well, right now, what I am focused on is making sure we get this bill through the Senate and making sure that we’re going to continue to advance President Trump’s agenda for America,” said Whatley. “We’re going to restore the southern border, keep America safe around the world, and ensure our kids are safe at home.”
