Idaho Hosts Free Fishing Day for Young Anglers

IDAHO – Idaho’s Free Fishing Day is set for Saturday, inviting all anglers to fish without a license. The event targets youth aged 16 and younger and is entirely free, according to a news release from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG).
The IDFG is particularly excited about two main events in Salmon and Challis. In Salmon, the derby will occur at Kid’s Creek Pond, where prizes will be awarded for the biggest fish caught across four different age categories. Registration is open from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m., with prizes announced at noon.
Meanwhile, young anglers in Challis will gather at Blue Mountain Kid’s Pond for a similar event, supported by local merchants and the Challis Community Trails Alliance. Local experts will assist young anglers in both locations, ensuring a fun and educational experience.
“When fishing with kids, remember to keep it fun, short, and simple,” the news release advises. A limited amount of fishing gear will also be available for participants to borrow.
While no fishing license is needed on Free Fishing Day, all other fishing regulations remain in effect. For further details on rules and fishing locations, visit the Idaho Fish and Game website.
