Michael Bublé And Seth Meyers Interview

Renowned singer Michael Bublé recently recounted how a comedic sketch he participated in years ago on ‘Saturday Night Live‘ (SNL) profoundly influenced his career and later advertising work. Bublé, known for his smooth melodies and charming personality, shared this insight during an episode of ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers‘ on September 23, 2024.

The discussion took viewers back to January 30, 2010, when Bublé was the musical guest on SNL, appearing alongside actor Jon Hamm. During the episode, the duo starred in the now-classic comedic sketch ‘Hamm & Bublé,’ which was penned by Seth Meyers. “You were the Musical Guest with Jon Hamm in 2010 on SNL, and one of the favorite things I’ve ever written was called ‘Hamm & Bublé,'” Meyers told Bublé, acknowledging the singer’s contribution to the skit.

The humorous premise of ‘Hamm & Bublé’ revolved around Jon Hamm playing a fictional version of himself, who opened a restaurant featuring ham and champagne. The sketch required Bublé to jokingly mispronounce his surname as ‘Bubbly’ to align with the comedic name of the establishment. Describing the experience, Bublé stated, “I remember I was so excited when I read it… I was like, ‘This is so funny. This is so good.'”

Meyers highlighted how the sketch had a life-changing impact on Bublé’s career. Following the show’s success, Lorne Michaels, the creator and executive producer of SNL, invited Bublé to perform at a benefit event, which Meyers also attended. “You introduced me, and you basically said that you had given me the greatest thing I’d ever had in my career,” Bublé recounted, expressing appreciation towards Meyers for his role in crafting the memorable skit.

Beyond SNL, ‘Hamm & Bublé’ continued to influence Bublé’s career trajectory in unexpected ways. In 2019, the singer starred in a Super Bowl commercial for a popular beverage brand where he humorously insisted on pronouncing the brand name ‘Bubly’ as ‘Bublé.’ This concept mirrored the theme from the SNL sketch, leading Bublé to exclaim, “You stole this from Seth!”

Reflecting on the enduring legacy of the sketch, Meyers commented, “I’m like, ‘I just pronounced his name different.’ I came there pretty naturally.” Bublé, who continues to be associated with the beverage brand, credits the initial sketch for its continuing impact, affirming, “And now seven years later, I still do stuff for Bubly.”

Though originally aired years ago, ‘Hamm & Bublé’ remains a significant highlight in Bublé’s career, showcasing the lasting power of humor and creative writing in shaping a public persona. The sketch and its ensuing effects are a testament to the unpredictable ways in which entertainment and advertising can intersect.
