WASHINGTON — In an exclusive interview with WMUR, incoming White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt outlined what to expect from Donald Trump‘s second inauguration and administration. Leavitt, a New Hampshire native and the youngest person to hold the press secretary role, shared insights into Trump’s inaugural address and policy priorities for his second term.

Leavitt revealed that Trump’s speech will emphasize unity, reaching out to those who did not vote for him. “In his inaugural speech, you’ll hear him talk about how he wants us to enter a new golden age of America, where people’s hope in this country is restored,” she said. This contrasts with his first inaugural address in 2017, which was marked by the phrase “American carnage.”

Key themes of the speech will include border security, law and order, and addressing everyday economic challenges, such as rising grocery costs. Leavitt stated, “American families can have a real chance at living the American dream, where you go to the grocery store, and you’re not putting things back on the shelves because you can’t afford them.”

Leavitt, who previously worked in Trump’s first-term press office, noted a shift in tone and support for the incoming administration. “There feels to be a different energy here in Washington, D.C. The whole world is on President Trump’s side,” she said. She highlighted the presence of prominent figures, including Jeff Bezos, at Trump’s golf club as evidence of broader support from Silicon Valley, Wall Street, and Main Street.

When asked if Trump would maintain his signature style, including his use of social media, Leavitt responded, “Donald Trump will always be Donald Trump.” However, she added that he would be more focused on achieving major policy goals, recognizing the limited time of a four-year term.

Leavitt, who ran for Congress in New Hampshire’s First District in 2022 but lost to Rep. Chris Pappas, brings a mix of political and media experience to her new role. She previously worked part-time at WMUR, the station that conducted the interview.

Trump’s second inauguration is set to take place on January 20, 2025, with expectations of a significant policy push in areas such as immigration, economic reform, and national security.
