India Meteorological Department Issues Thunderstorm Alert in Telangana
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has officially issued a thunderstorm alert across 27 districts in Telangana, effective for Thursday, October 10, 2024. This precautionary advisory warns of potential thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in various areas of the state.
As per the IMD’s daily weather bulletin, the districts facing this alert include Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Siddipet, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.
The forecast for Hyderabad and its surrounding areas over the next 24 hours predicts generally cloudy skies. Additionally, light rain or drizzle is likely to occur, particularly towards the evening or at night, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected around 33 and 23 degrees Celsius, respectively, according to the IMD report.
Residents in regions prone to waterlogging and localised heavy downpours are advised to remain vigilant. The IMD anticipates similar weather patterns from October 10 to October 14, with the city expected to witness generally cloudy skies and light rain intermittently. Temperatures are predicted to remain between a low of 24 degrees and a high of 34 degrees Celsius throughout this period.
In addition to this regional forecast, the IMD has also issued a ‘yellow alert’ across several parts of Peninsular and Northeast India. This alert signals the probability of heavy rainfall over the next six days in regions including Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
For southern states, moderate to heavy rainfalls are foreseen in Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and both Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, alongside Lakshadweep. Isolated rain showers are also predicted to affect North Interior Karnataka, Telangana, and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
