Indian Air Force Chennai Air Show

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is hosting a grand air show on Chennai‘s Marina Beach as part of its 92nd-anniversary celebrations. The event, showcasing aerial prowess and technological advancements, takes place today, drawing significant attention from aviation enthusiasts and the general public alike.

This year’s air show, featuring 72 aircraft, highlights a wide array of military jets including the Rafale, SU-30, MIGs, Jaguar, and Tejas. In addition, the celebrated aerobatic teams – Surya Kiran and Sarang helicopters – are presenting impressive manoeuvres and synchronised formation flying.

Key figures such as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, and Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh are attending, alongside senior officials from Tamil Nadu and the Indian Air Force.

The Greater Chennai Traffic Police have issued advisories encouraging attendees to use the Metro Rail and MRTS services to ease traffic congestion and ensure smooth travel to the event. Arriving early is recommended to secure optimal viewing positions.

According to Group Captain Supandeep Singh, an estimated 1 to 1.2 million spectators are expected at the event. The air show marks the first such aerial display in Chennai after a two-decade hiatus, with 22 types of aircraft participating in honour of the IAF anniversary.

Air Officer Commander Rathish Kumar VM mentioned that the flypast is visible from all of Chennai’s beaches, with major aerobatic displays scheduled at Marina Beach. Highlights include the Tejas, Sukhoi Su-30MKI, and performances by Surya Kiran and Akash Ganga skydiving teams.

The theme “Bhartiya Vayu Sena – Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar” emphasizes the IAF’s mission of capability, strength, and self-reliance, as reflected in the air show proceedings today.
