Intense Fundraising in Texas Senate Race Sets New Records
WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Colin Allred, a Democrat from Dallas, announced on Tuesday that his campaign has raised $30.3 million in the third quarter for his U.S. Senate race, positioning him ahead in the financial aspect against incumbent Senator Ted Cruz. Senator Cruz’s campaign and associated organizations reported raising $21 million during the same period.
This substantial fundraising effort indicates that the race between Allred and Cruz is on track to set new spending records for a U.S. Senate race in Texas. The Allred campaign has reported a total of $68.7 million raised so far in the election cycle. This figure surpasses the fundraising pace of former Democratic Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke, who raised $61 million at a similar stage during his campaign against Cruz in 2018, a race he ultimately lost by 2.6 percentage points.
Campaign spokesperson Paige Hutchinson noted that the Allred campaign has been actively utilizing advertising to challenge Cruz, contributing to the narrowing gap in polling between the two candidates. “From the $5 grassroots donors to the families knocking doors together each weekend, this campaign is about bringing Texans together and holding Ted Cruz accountable for only caring about himself,” Hutchinson stated in a news release. “This November, Colin Allred will send Ted Cruz packing for good.”
The race has attracted significant attention and resources from third-party groups as well. Recent polling data reflects varied outcomes, with some surveys placing Allred within the margin of error and others showing a slight lead for Cruz.
Cruz’s campaign, meanwhile, remains confident about the outcome. Campaign spokesperson Nick Maddux emphasized the stakes of the upcoming election in a statement: “The future of our state and nation is on the line and supporters are geared up and ready to re-elect Senator Cruz and Keep Texas, Texas.” Maddux added that Senator Cruz plans to travel extensively across the state to engage with voters and strengthen support leading up to the November 5 election.
This Senate race is drawing national attention due to its potential impact on the balance of power in the Senate, with both parties investing heavily in their respective campaigns.
