International Conference On Human Rights Protection Held In Tashkent

Today, a significant international conference focusing on the safeguarding of rights and freedoms of individuals took place in the capital city of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The event, generously supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), gathered around 100 experts from across the globe, including over 20 ombudspersons and delegates from international bodies.

At the conference, Ombudsperson Feruza Eshmatova delivered a comprehensive overview of the advancements in human rights protection within Uzbekistan, particularly emphasizing the rights of women, individuals with disabilities, and migrant workers. USAID Mission Director to Uzbekistan, David Hoffman, also took the stage and highlighted the crucial role of upholding fundamental human rights in the nation’s development.

The conference served as a crucial platform for deliberations on bolstering the protection of marginalized groups such as women, persons with disabilities, and ensuring the overall labor rights of the populace. Moreover, participants engaged in constructive dialogue to devise practical solutions for enhancing the security of personal information of vulnerable individuals when utilizing digital platforms.

During the conference, key stakeholders, including the Ombudsperson’s office, representatives from the Government of Uzbekistan, and members of civil society, collaborated extensively to ensure the continuous progress of human rights protection initiatives in the country. This collaborative effort aimed to strengthen national mechanisms for safeguarding human rights.

Over the years, USAID has been a vital supporter of the Ombudsperson’s office in Uzbekistan, contributing to the expansion of its capacities and independence through legislative development. Additionally, USAID provided essential information communication technology equipment, enabling the Ombudsperson’s office to extend its services nationwide. Through a strategic public/private partnership facilitated by USAID, the Ombudsperson’s office, along with the Chamber of Advocates and local NGOs, endeavors to ensure justice accessibility for all citizens of Uzbekistan.

USAID collaborates closely with the Government of Uzbekistan to diversify the nation’s economy, enhance regional trade, address critical health challenges, and strengthen the government’s responsiveness to the population’s needs. This conference stands as a testament to the collective commitment towards promoting and safeguarding human rights on both a national and international level.
