Investigation Launched After Fairground Ride Malfunction Injures Four At Lambeth Country Show

An investigation has been initiated following a malfunction on a funfair ride that resulted in the hospitalization of four individuals, including an 11-year-old girl, at the Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park, South London.

The incident occurred at approximately 18:20 BST on Saturday during the country event, as reported by Lambeth Council, which stated that the inquiry aims to identify the cause of the malfunction.

All funfair rides at the show have been closed as a precautionary measure on Sunday, and one specific ride, shrouded in tarpaulin, indicated signs of the malfunction without specifying the exact ride affected.

Emergency services promptly responded to the scene following the incident, leading to the closure of the funfair.

The Metropolitan Police in Lambeth communicated via X, formerly Twitter, that the injured individuals, aside from the 11-year-old girl, included a man and a woman in their 40s, and a man in his 50s, with confirmation that none were in a critical condition.

Officials cordoned off the area, and the Health and Safety Executive will be notified for further investigations.

Additionally, stringent safety checks are being conducted on all rides and attractions at the Lambeth Country Show.

Lambeth Council affirmed that the hospitalized individuals were under close medical attention and expressed gratitude to the emergency services for their immediate response and assistance to the affected families.

As part of allowing a thorough investigation, funfair rides at the show will be impacted by closures for the second day of the country fair, emphasizing attendee safety as the top priority.

Brockwell Park, situated near Brixton, is a popular green space where the incident unfolded, and it notably marked the 50th anniversary of the Lambeth Country Show, a prominent free family festival in the UK.

The show, continuing from 13:00 BST on Sunday, attracts a significant crowd.

A representative from the London Ambulance Service mentioned that four crews, including members of the hazardous area response team and an air ambulance, responded to the incident, with all injured parties transported to major trauma centers for treatment.
