Cory Mills Congressional Hearing

Washington, D.C. — Republican Rep. Cory Mills of Florida is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department following reports of an alleged assault at his residence. The incident occurred on February 19, 2025, leading to an active criminal investigation.

Officers responded to the 1300 block of Maryland Avenue, Southwest, around 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The police confirmed that Mills is the subject of the investigation but noted that no arrests have been made and no formal charges have been filed against him.

A spokesperson for Mills issued a statement refuting any allegations of wrongdoing. “This week, law enforcement was asked to resolve a private matter at Congressman Mills’ residence,” the spokesperson said. “Congressman Mills vehemently denies any wrongdoing whatsoever, and is confident any investigation will clear this matter quickly.”

The alleged victim, who is not Mills’ wife, described the situation as emotionally charged but maintained that there was no physical altercation. In a text message, she stated: “While the personal matter in question was emotionally charged, there was no physical altercation.”

According to a police report obtained by NBC News, the investigation is classified as a “simple assault,” indicating that the weapon involved was classified as “personal weapons (hands/feet).” The report describes the incident as involving “force used — forced to another location.”

Mills, 44, is serving his second term representing Florida’s 7th Congressional District. He has previously indicated plans to run for a Senate seat in the future.

The Metropolitan Police Department has initiated its internal investigation to review how the situation was handled following the initial report of the incident. A spokesperson for MPD stated that there was an immediate review of the initial response to ensure proper procedures were followed. “MPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau is currently investigating this matter,” the spokesperson said.

Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser confirmed the ongoing investigation during a press briefing, stating, “I can confirm that there is an internal investigation on making sure that all of our members did what they were supposed to do, according to MPD policy, so I can confirm that.”
