Iowa Democrat Richard Sherzan Announces U.S. Senate Campaign Focused on Clean Water

DES MOINES, Iowa – Richard Sherzan, a former state lawmaker and administrative law judge, has declared his candidacy for the U.S. Senate, emphasizing clean water and healthcare as fundamental rights for Iowans.
Sherzan, a veteran who served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1979 to 1981, expressed his commitment to addressing these issues during his campaign announcement on Thursday. He stated, “Iowans deserve access to clean water and quality healthcare. These should not be privileges, but rights that are guaranteed to everyone.”
After a lengthy career in Arizona, where he unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. Senate, Sherzan has returned to Iowa and is ready to promote his vision for what he calls a “New West agenda.” This agenda centers on strengthening public-private partnerships to ensure the state can effectively compete with China.
Sherzan believes that historical precedents show how public-private partnerships have played crucial roles during national crises. He articulated, “The American democratic government intervened to provide the leadership and direction needed for security and prosperity. We are in such a time again, and we must rise to the occasion.”
If elected, Sherzan aims to champion policies that protect the environment and bolster health rights for all residents of Iowa. As he embarks on his campaign, he looks forward to engaging with voters across the state to share his message.
His campaign is a response to the growing concerns among Iowans regarding environmental issues and healthcare accessibility. Sherzan’s assertive stance on these issues aims to resonate with both traditional Democratic voters and those disillusioned by the political status quo.
