Iowa Republicans Dance to ‘YMCA’ in Celebration of Historic Election Wins
DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa Republicans celebrated their historic election victories Monday with a spirited dance to the “YMCA” at their annual legislative breakfast, marking their largest majority in over 50 years.
Republican Party of Iowa Chair Jeff Kaufmann led legislators and party officials in the dance, a signature campaign move of President-elect Donald Trump. The event, held before the legislative session began, aimed to showcase the party’s enthusiasm and unity.
“We want people to know that Iowa Republicans are fired up,” Kaufmann said, encouraging attendees to join in. “We want people to know that Iowa Republicans like Donald Trump.”
Kaufmann also revealed that Trump would be shown videos of the celebration. “I’ve got confirmation he will see them,” he told the crowd, drawing cheers and applause.
The November elections saw Republicans secure significant gains, solidifying their control in Iowa and across the nation. The dance, set to the Village People‘s 1978 hit, became a recurring theme during Trump’s campaign rallies, symbolizing the party’s connection to its base.
Monday’s event underscored the party’s optimism as it prepares to tackle legislative priorities in the upcoming session. Attendees expressed confidence in their ability to advance conservative policies with their strengthened majority.
