Iran‘s tensions with Israel escalated as explosions heard near a major air base in Isfahan prompted the firing of air defence batteries across several provinces. The incident raised fears of a possible Israeli strike following Iran’s recent drone-and-missile assault.

No official confirmation of an attack was given by either country, with Israel’s military remaining silent on the matter. However, the sound of blasts near Isfahan, as reported by Fars and Tasnim news agencies, heightened concerns over a potential military confrontation.

Reports indicate that air defences targeted a significant air base in Isfahan, known for housing Iran’s fleet of American-made F-14 Tomcats. This region is also home to crucial sites linked to Iran’s nuclear program, including the Natanz enrichment site.

Reuters quoted an Iranian official attributing the explosions to the firing of air defence batteries, while Bloomberg cited US officials claiming the blasts were the result of an Israeli missile strike. Amid conflicting reports, the situation remained tense.

Iran’s retaliatory stance comes after recent Israeli strikes on Iranian assets, including the consulate in Damascus. The shadow conflict between the two nations has now taken a more direct and volatile turn, with potential implications on regional stability.
