Iran Launches Attacks in Pakistan, Clashes Escalate Along Border
Clashes have escalated along the Iran–Pakistan border as Iran launched a series of attacks on terrorist group bases in Pakistan on Wednesday. The strikes targeted two bases belonging to the Jaish al-Adl group, which had been responsible for numerous attacks on Iranian security forces. This act followed similar strikes carried out by elite Revolutionary Guards in Iraq and Syria.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned Iran’s actions, calling it an ‘unprovoked violation of its airspace’ and warning of ‘serious consequences.’ The ministry summoned the Iranian charge d’affaires to express its strongest condemnation of the incident.
The location of the casualties was not specified by Pakistani authorities, but reports indicate that the bases targeted by Iran were in Balochistan, one of which was a significant headquarters of the Jaish al-Adl group.
Iran’s attack has raised tensions between the two countries, with Pakistan stating that terrorism is a common threat to all nations in the region and that unilateral acts such as this can seriously undermine bilateral trust and confidence. Pakistan emphasized the need for coordinated action against terrorism.
Videos shared on social media alleged that two children, aged 8 and 12, were killed in the attack. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
Jaish al-Adl is a Sunni terrorist group operating in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan, which shares borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan. The group has carried out several attacks on Iranian security forces, including an attack on a police station in Sistan-Baluchistan in December that resulted in the deaths of at least 11 police personnel.
