James Blunt Promises Name Change if ‘Back to Bedlam’ Reaches No. 1 Again
James Blunt, the British singer-songwriter renowned for his wit, has made a striking pledge to his fans. In an unconventional promotional move, Blunt has vowed to legally change his name if a re-release of his debut album, “Back to Bedlam,” reaches Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart.
Taking to social media platforms X and Instagram, Blunt challenged his followers with the proposal, stating, “Wanna ruin my life? If the 20th Anniversary Edition of my album ‘Back to Bedlam’ re-enters the charts at Number 1, I will legally change my name – to whatever you guys decide.”
Blunt also encouraged fans to propose potential new names through comments on his posts. “The comment with the most likes on this post across my social media profiles on 11th October – when the album is released – wins,” he added.
Released initially in March 2005, “Back to Bedlam” was an unprecedented success, holding the top position in the charts for 10 consecutive weeks. The album includes the chart-topping single “You're Beautiful,” as well as additional hits “Goodbye My Lover” (reaching Number 9), “High” (Number 16), and “Wisemen” (Number 23) on the Official Singles Chart.
Throughout his career, James Blunt has achieved two Number 1 albums, with “Back to Bedlam” and his 2007 release “All the Lost Souls,” while six other albums have secured spots within the Top 10.
The idea of fans determining a new name for the singer adds a humorous and engaging twist to the album’s anniversary promotion, prompting much speculation and creativity amongst his audience.
