Jeff Bridges Urges Lawmakers to Protect Food Assistance Programs
Washington, D.C. — Actor Jeff Bridges is calling on lawmakers to take action as millions of Americans are at risk of losing their food assistance. During a recent interview, Bridges emphasized the importance of programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in providing essential support to families in need.
“It’s vital that our leaders understand the impact of cutting food assistance on vulnerable communities,” Bridges said. Millions rely on these programs to put food on the table, and disruptions could mean more hunger across the nation.
Bridges spoke alongside Billy Shore, Founder and Executive Chair of Share Our Strength, an organization dedicated to eradicating hunger. Shore highlighted the increasing demands on food banks, which have seen a surge in requests for support amid rising costs of living.
Experts warn that any cuts to SNAP could lead to dire consequences. Food bank operators are already grappling with unprecedented challenges, with one CEO stating that the current needs are greater than in years past. “We simply cannot keep up with the skyrocketing demand for food assistance,” Shore added.
As discussions about the future of these programs continue in Congress, Bridges remains hopeful that lawmakers will prioritize the needs of those struggling to find enough to eat. “There’s still time to do the right thing. Our country can do better for its people,” he concluded.
