JetBlue Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Tampa After Altitude Drop
TAMPA, Florida – A JetBlue flight from Cancun, Mexico, to Newark, New Jersey, made an emergency landing in Tampa on Thursday after experiencing a sudden drop in altitude, leaving several passengers injured.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. local time when Flight 1230, an Airbus A320-232 registered as N605JB, diverted to Tampa International Airport. According to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the flight was met by medical personnel upon landing.
The airline confirmed that at least three passengers sustained injuries, which may include lacerations. It remains unclear how many total people were injured, as JetBlue has not released specific numbers.
JetBlue stated that the aircraft encountered a flight control issue, which was the cause of the altitude drop. However, weather conditions were reported to be calm at the time of the incident.
The FAA has launched an investigation into the occurrence, describing its information as preliminary. They did not provide detailed information about the cause of the altitude loss.
JetBlue has grounded the aircraft for an inspection and promised to conduct a thorough investigation. “The safety of our customers and crew members is always our first priority, and we will work to support those involved,” JetBlue said in their statement.
