JNU Student Union Election 2024: Left Surges Ahead in Counting Process
In the ongoing counting process of the JNUSU Election 2024, the Left is making significant strides, especially in the central panel positions.
The latest trend shows a shift in favor of Left candidates, indicating a possible change in leadership within the student union. Previously, the ABVP had a lead in all four positions.
The four central panel positions being contested include President, Vice President, General Secretary, and Joint Secretary, each crucial for the functioning of the JNUSU.
In the 2019 elections, the Left student outfits formed an alliance under the banner of The United-Left, comprising AISA, SFI, DSF, and AISF, leading to a victory for SFI candidate Aishe Ghosh.
This year, the election saw an impressive voter turnout of 73%, marking the highest participation in JNU‘s history in the past 12 years.
Notable contenders in this election include President Dhananjay, Vice President Deepika Sharma, General Secretary Arjun Anand, and Joint Secretary Govind Daangi from the ABVP.
On the opposing side, BAPSA has fielded candidates like Biswajit Minji, MD Anas A, Rupak Kumar Singh, and Priyanshi Arya for various key positions, representing diverse regions and backgrounds.
The election dynamics also highlight the presence of NSUI’s Junaid Raza and Farheen Zaidi, who bring Congress’s student outfit into the mix with their candidacies for crucial posts in the student union.
As the counting process unfolds, it is becoming evident that the JNUSU Election 2024 is witnessing a keenly contested battle between ideologies and aspirations of the student community at JNU.
