Bergerac Reboot Filming Jersey

The popular television series “Bergerac,” originally aired from 1981 to 1991, is set to return with a new reboot three decades after its original conclusion. This announcement has excited fans of the classic crime drama, who eagerly anticipate seeing the new adaptation.

The series, which featured John Nettles as Detective Jim Bergerac, was famous for its captivating crime-solving narratives set against the picturesque backdrop of Jersey. However, in the upcoming reboot, actor Damien Molony will assume the lead role as Detective Bergerac. Despite the excitement surrounding the relaunch, audiences will not see a cameo from John Nettles in this new iteration.

John Nettles recently provided insights into his decision during an interview on the “BBC Breakfast” program. “I received a lovely letter from the production team inviting me for a cameo,” he remarked. “But I felt it would interfere with the actual production and, in a sense, undermine its integrity. Besides, I’m too old and I’ve retired; I’ve got to face up to that.”

Tim Renouf, who is part of the new cast, shared details regarding what viewers could expect from the rebooted series. “The framework of the story is essentially the same,” he explained. “It’s still about Bergerac returning to the force and delving back into criminal investigations. While it maintains the glamour of the original, the new series will be grittier and the stories slightly darker.”

Joining the ensemble cast is actress Zoe Wanamaker, taking on the role of Charlie, Jim Bergerac’s mother-in-law. Actor Philip Glenister will also feature in the series, complemented by numerous local Jersey residents participating as extras. The reboot is currently being filmed in Jersey.

The new “Bergerac” series is scheduled to air on Drama in 2025 and will also be available for streaming on UKTV Play. Fans patiently await its release, eager to see how the classic tale of Detective Bergerac has been reimagined for modern audiences.
