John Williams to Score New Spielberg UFO Film in 2026
NEW YORK, NY — Oscar-winning composer John Williams will score the next film directed by Steven Spielberg, marking their 30th collaboration. The announcement was made by Juilliard School president Damian Woetzel during an event titled “John Williams – A Composer’s Life: A Night of Stories and Music” on Monday. The film is set for release in June 2026.
Almost no details about the movie are available, but it is rumored to be a UFO-themed adventure. Universal Pictures describes it as a “new original event film.” The cast includes Josh O'Connor, Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, and Eve Hewson, with the screenplay written by David Koepp, a frequent Spielberg collaborator.
Williams and Spielberg’s partnership began with 1974’s “The Sugarland Express” and has led to iconic films like “Jaws,” “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” “Jurassic Park,” and dramas such as “Schindler’s List” and “Saving Private Ryan.” At 93, Williams had hinted at retirement after completing the score for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” but he has since reconsidered, stating, “If a film came along that I was greatly interested in, then I wouldn’t want to rule anything out.”
Although the upcoming film remains untitled, Spielberg’s new project continues their long-standing and celebrated collaboration that has shaped modern filmmaking.
