Judge Dismisses Vin Diesel’s Sexual Assault Lawsuit Over Technicality
LOS ANGELES, California — A lawsuit accusing actor Vin Diesel of sexual assault, filed by a former assistant, was dismissed by a judge on Wednesday. The ruling stated that the allegations must be addressed in Georgia, where the alleged incident occurred in 2010.
The lawsuit was brought by Asta Jonasson, who claimed that Diesel assaulted her while filming “Fast Five” in Atlanta. Jonasson’s attorney, Matthew Hale, expressed his intention to appeal the judge’s ruling, emphasizing that it did not address the merits of the case.
“The Court did not decide anything about the truth of Ms. Asta Jonasson’s allegations,” Hale told Deadline. “The ruling was based on a legal technicality, with which we respectfully disagree.” He highlighted that Jonasson plans to continue her fight for justice.
Judge Daniel M. Crowley‘s 13-page ruling explained that the sexual battery claims could not utilize California law due to the alleged events happening in Georgia. “It is undisputed that the alleged sexual assault took place in Atlanta, Georgia,” Crowley stated.
In her lawsuit, Jonasson described the assault as occurring in Diesel’s hotel suite after a night out. She claimed she was forcibly pinned against a wall and experienced unwanted physical contact. Hours later, she alleged that Diesel’s sister, Samantha Vincent, terminated her employment.
Diesel’s legal team responded that the case should be dismissed due to jurisdictional issues, asserting that the claims were based on actions that occurred out of state.
“We are grateful that the court put an end to this meritless lawsuit,” Diesel’s attorney Bryan Freedman remarked following the ruling. He added that the dismissal fully resolved the matter.
As of now, the future of Jonasson’s claims hinges on the upcoming appeal she intends to file, which may shift the trajectory of this high-profile case.
