MABLETON, Ga. – A juvenile was shot Wednesday afternoon at Lindley Middle School, prompting an immediate lockdown of the campus, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred at the school located at 50 Veterans Memorial Highway, with law enforcement securing the area shortly after the shooting was reported.

Officer S.A. Barner of the Cobb County Police Department stated, “In conjunction with the Cobb County School Police, we responded to an incident at Lindley Middle School following a report of a person shot.” The victim, identified only as a juvenile, was transported for medical treatment, though their condition remains undisclosed. “Out of respect for their family and the ongoing investigation, we are unable to share further details about their condition or confirm any other specifics,” Barner added.

The school, which serves 905 students according to the Georgia Department of Education, was thoroughly cleared and deemed secure. Parents were directed to reunite with their children at Leland United Methodist Church, located at 81 Veterans Memorial Highway. Police remain on-site as the investigation continues.

Authorities have not released information about potential suspects or the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Officer Barner expressed gratitude for the community’s cooperation, stating, “We are working closely with the Cobb County School Police and will provide updates as more information becomes available. Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and patience during this time.”

The Cobb County Police Department and Cobb County Schools are leading the investigation, with updates expected as more details emerge.
