Kamala Harris Maintains Slim Lead Over Donald Trump in Latest Polls Ahead of US Elections
With just a few days left until the U.S. presidential election on November 5, the latest polls indicate that Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is maintaining a slim lead over Republican candidate Donald Trump. Since Harris entered the race in late July, following President Joe Biden‘s decision to end his campaign and endorse her, she has consistently held a small lead in national polling averages.
According to the polling data compiled by the analysis website 538, Harris has been ahead of Trump by nearly four percentage points at times, although the lead has stabilized to around a couple of percentage points in recent weeks. This stability has persisted even after the only debate between the two candidates on September 10, which was watched by nearly 70 million people.
In the crucial swing states, the polls are extremely tight. States like Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina have seen Trump with a small lead, while Harris is slightly ahead in Nevada. In Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, Harris has been leading since August, although the margins have tightened significantly in recent days.
The tight race in these swing states is critical, as they hold significant electoral votes. For instance, Pennsylvania, with the highest number of electoral votes among the seven swing states, is a key battleground for both campaigns.
Despite the close margins, it is important to note that polls have historically underestimated support for Trump, and the accuracy of polling predictions remains a concern. Polling companies are working to adjust their methodologies to better reflect the voting population, but the outcome remains uncertain.
