Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has put in place a 24-hour curfew across the state to help maintain order after protests turned chaotic and led to looting incidents.

Addressing the situation, Governor Yusuf spoke to the media following an urgent meeting with security leaders. He expressed his sorrow over how what began as peaceful demonstrations was taken over by hoodlums and thugs.

In an attempt to manage the unrest, the governor organized a meeting with traditional leaders, which included the four Emirs of Karaye, Rano, Karaye, and Gaya, along with others from Kano. His goal was to foster a dialogue with the protest organizers.

While acknowledging that citizens have the right to protest, Yusuf urged those involved to remain peaceful. He reassured them that their messages would be taken seriously and passed on to President Bola Tinubu.

According to the governor, some individuals had already been identified as supporters of the troublemakers, and he has reported them to the security services.

Yusuf stated that during the emergency meeting, it was decided that a curfew would be enforced until normalcy is restored in Kano. He emphasized that the curfew is a necessary measure, citing his authority as governor.
