Kapil Sibal Elected President of Supreme Court Bar Association Defeating Pradeep Rai
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal emerged victorious in the recent elections for the President post of the esteemed Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA). Sibal secured a total of 1,066 votes, defeating his closest competitor, senior advocate Pradeep Rai, who received 689 votes.
This marks Sibal’s fourth term as the President of the SCBA, previously serving in 1995-96, 1997-98, and 2001. His competitors in the election included Priya Hingorani, Tripurari Ray, Neeraj Srivastava, among others.
Adish Aggarwala, another senior advocate, currently holds the position of President, while Pradeep Rai serves as the Vice President and Rohit Pandey as the Honorary Secretary of the association.
The recent elections for the SCBA witnessed Sibal securing a significant victory, marking his return after two decades into the leadership position
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court mandated that certain executive committee posts in the SCBA must be reserved for women members. This directive aimed to promote gender diversity and inclusivity within the professional body.
The SCBA elections, held on May 16, concluded with vote counting scheduled for May 18 and results expected to be announced on May 19.
