Kent State Soccer Team Faces Rival Akron in Key Matchup

Kent, Ohio – The Kent State soccer team will face off against their rival Akron on Sunday at 1 p.m. The match will take place at FirstEnergy Stadium, marking a short road trip for the Golden Flashes after a three-game home stand.
In their last outing, Kent State played to a 1-1 draw against Eastern Michigan. They impressed with 31 total shots, tying for the fourth most in a single game in school history, and limited the Eagles to just three shots. Eastern Michigan’s Ella Holland set a Mid-American Conference record with 20 saves during the match.
Eastern Michigan took the lead in the 69th-minute with a goal by Hannah Thompson. However, Kent State quickly responded when a player netted the equalizer less than a minute later, exhibiting a strong sense of urgency. The game ended in a 1-1 tie after nothing further was scored.
Looking at Akron’s season, they have a 3-5-3 record and have struggled in conference play with an 0-3-2 start. They recently lost to UMass at home, 1-0. Freshman midfielder Addison Hall leads the Zips with seven points, while teammate Fineen Cregan has contributed five points this season.
This matchup will be the 26th encounter between Kent State and Akron, with Kent State holding a dominant 21-4 advantage in the all-time series. Last year, Kent State secured a 1-0 victory over Akron on their home turf.
Following the game against Akron, Kent State will return home to host the Ohio Bobcats on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium.
