Kevin Conroy Batman Voice Actor Portrait

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice actor behind Batman for over three decades, left a lasting legacy not only through his performances but also through his personal kindness. In 2020, a fan struggling with schizophrenia shared how a six-minute Cameo video from Conroy saved him from suicide “countless times.”

The fan, who requested anonymity, had initially paid for a 30-second Cameo but received an unexpectedly heartfelt six-minute response. Conroy, known for his portrayal of Batman in animated series, movies, and video games, shared his own experiences with mental health, including his brother’s battle with schizophrenia. “I believe in you. Batman believes in you, and Batman is on your side,” Conroy said in the video.

The fan, deeply moved by Conroy’s vulnerability, kept the video private until Conroy publicly discussed his brother’s struggles in “Finding Batman,” an autobiographical comic story. “His reply, this video, is my most prized possession,” the fan said. “It’s saved me from suicide countless times.”

Conroy’s impact extended beyond this fan. After his passing in 2022, tributes poured in from fans and colleagues, highlighting his generosity and humanity. In one notable instance, Conroy used his Batman voice to uplift 9/11 first responders while helping cook meals for them during recovery efforts.

Conroy’s legacy as Batman transcended the screen, embodying the hero’s ethos of compassion and resilience. His message to the fan remains a testament to the power of empathy and connection: “You’re not alone. Batman is on your side.”
