Kevin Durant Houston Rockets Trade

NEW YORK, June 22, 2025 — NBA superstar Kevin Durant has been traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets in a significant move, according to ESPN. The trade agreement sends Durant, a 15-time All-Star, to Houston in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and five second-round picks.

The trade can be finalized when the new league year begins on July 6. Durant, who was present at Fanatics Fest at the Javits Center in New York during the announcement, expressed his excitement about joining the Rockets. “Being part of the Houston Rockets, I’m looking forward to it,” he said.

The Rockets, who were the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference this past season, also received two starters from the Suns, alongside the 2025 first-round pick. Houston finished the season with 52 wins under coach Ime Udoka, giving them a strong foundation for competing for an NBA title.

Durant’s relationship with Udoka dates back to their time with the USA Basketball team. Durant noted that he was aware a trade might be imminent but was uncertain about the timeline. “They had a great season last year. Love their leadership. I felt like I’d be a good addition,” he said.

In the 2024-2025 season, Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. He is known for his exceptional scoring ability, including a league-leading performance in various shooting categories and an impressive effectiveness on jump shots.

The Rockets’ acquisition of Durant notably enhances their championship aspirations. His offensive skills will complement rising stars such as Amen Thompson and Alperen Şengün, as well as veteran guard Fred VanVleet. With Durant on the roster, Houston’s odds to win the NBA title next season shifted drastically from 18-1 to +850.

The Suns are resetting their roster after falling short of their championship goals during Durant’s tenure. They are now equipped with young prospects and additional draft picks, including Green, who averaged 21.0 points last season. Brooks, a known defensive player, adds toughness to the Suns’ lineup.

Durant, who will turn 37 in September, has had a storied career and will continue vying for playoff positioning in the Western Conference with the Rockets.
