Kevin Hassett Poised to Lead National Economic Council Under President-elect Trump
President-elect Donald Trump is set to appoint Kevin Hassett as the leader of the National Economic Council (NEC), according to sources familiar with the matter. This role will position Hassett at the forefront of the new administration’s economic policies, including tax, trade, and spending initiatives.
Hassett has a long history in conservative economic circles, having served as a senior adviser to Trump and as the chair of the Council of Economic Advisers during Trump’s first administration from 2017 to 2019. He was a strong advocate for Trump’s signature tax policies and supported the administration’s tariff proposals.
In addition to his previous roles in the Trump administration, Hassett has held various other significant positions. He was the Director of Research for the American Enterprise Institute for nearly two decades and served as a Senior Economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve. Hassett also worked as an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Business of Columbia University. In 2020, he returned to the White House as a Senior Advisor to manage the economic policy response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently, Hassett is a distinguished visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution and serves as Vice President and Managing Director of the Lindsey Group. His extensive experience and expertise in economic policy make him a key figure in shaping the economic agenda of the incoming administration).
