LOS ANGELES, CA — Kristen Doute publicly criticized Lisa Vanderpump this week for her remarks about James Kennedy, who was arrested in December for domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend, Ally Lewber. The controversy arose after Vanderpump, 64, defended Kennedy, 33, claiming he ‘didn’t hurt’ Lewber, generating backlash from Doute, 41, who shared her displeasure on social media.
On February 7, Doute expressed her frustration on her Instagram Story, calling Vanderpump’s remarks ‘absolutely and disgustingly diabolical.’ In response to Vanderpump’s comments, which suggested that Lewber regretted the fallout from the incident, Doute stated, ‘I will never, ever be okay with this constant abuse-enabling behavior.’
Vanderpump claimed to have discussed the incident at length with both Kennedy and Lewber. She described the situation as a misunderstanding, stating that Lewber encouraged the police to intervene to ‘teach him a lesson.’ According to Vanderpump, Lewber said, ‘categorically [that] he didn’t hurt her.’ However, Doute dismissed these assertions, emphasizing the importance of supporting survivors of domestic abuse.
Doute further stated, ‘To every woman who is a survivor of DV and wasn’t believed or supported, I’m so sorry.’ Her comments echoed the voices of many who criticized Vanderpump for downplaying the seriousness of domestic violence.
The incident in question involved police being called to the home of Kennedy and Lewber, where she alleged that Kennedy threw her to the ground during an argument. Following the police report, the Burbank City Attorney’s Office determined there were ‘no grounds for any charges to be filed.’ Despite this, both Doute and Rachel Leviss, another of Kennedy’s ex-fiancés, have previously accused him of abusive behavior.
In a statement to media, Lewber acknowledged that although she experienced a heated argument with Kennedy, she was not physically harmed during the altercation. She expressed her shock over how the media portrayed the situation and stated, ‘I am happy that prosecutors decided not to file against James, as I never desired criminal charges.’
Kristen Doute, who dated Kennedy briefly in 2015, has been vocal about her own experiences with him, describing their relationship as tumultuous. She reflected on the troubling dynamics and behaviors that characterized her time with Kennedy, noting, ‘James did his homework. He knew exactly what to do to get me.’
Nick Viall, a former star of ‘The Bachelor,’ also addressed Kennedy’s arrest on his podcast, suggesting that Vanderpump has been complicit in allowing Kennedy to evade accountability. ‘It’s just shocking how much this has been swept under the rug,’ he said regarding Vanderpump’s silence on the matter.
As the reality TV series ‘Vanderpump Rules‘ prepares for its upcoming season on Bravo, the fallout from this controversial incident continues to captivate and concern fans. Doute’s statements underscore a growing call within the reality TV community for accountability and support for survivors of domestic violence.
