LAFC Prepares for Crucial Match Against New England Revolution

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — LAFC heads to Gillette Stadium on Saturday night to face the New England Revolution in a crucial MLS matchup as the team strives to secure a playoff spot.
With 11 games remaining in the regular season, LAFC is focused on climbing into the top four of the Western Conference after a recent stretch of three road matches. Currently in fifth place with 37 points, LAFC’s main goal is to gain home-field advantage in the playoffs.
“Our focus is solely on the MLS schedule,” manager Steve Cherundolo said. “We need to gather points to secure our position and make a run in the playoffs.”
LAFC will benefit from the recent signing of forward Son Heung-Min, who joined on a Designated Player contract through 2027. Son made an impact in his debut last week against Chicago, leading to a crucial goal and earning an important penalty.
Cherundolo praised Son’s addition, stating, “Having a player who can finish plays and make the team better can motivate others. We are looking for that advantage.”
Meanwhile, the New England Revolution faces challenges as they sit in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with just 28 points and need a win to maintain playoff hopes. Star player Carles Gil is leading the team with nine goals and also contributed a goal and an assist in last week’s victory over D.C. United, snapping a nine-game winless streak.
In a bid to stabilize their season, New England goalkeeper Matt Turner returned to the club after time in the Premier League and will play a crucial role in the upcoming match.
LAFC is aware of the challenges posed by playing on artificial turf in humid conditions. They have struggled on turf surfaces this season, boasting a record of 0-1-2 in similar conditions. Cherundolo emphasized the need for the team to adapt and focus on their defensive strength to secure three points.
Both teams are hungry for points, with LAFC seeking to rise in the standings and New England striving to stay in playoff contention. The result of this match could have significant implications for both clubs as they head into the final stretch of the regular season.
