Los Angeles Lakers Center Trade Rumors

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles Lakers are actively seeking a new center as the NBA Draft approaches. Reports indicate the team is exploring a trade for Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler while distancing itself from interest in veteran John Collins.

The Lakers recently missed out on a potential trade for Kristaps Porzingis, who was sent to the Atlanta Hawks by the Boston Celtics, prompting renewed speculation about L.A.’s frontcourt needs. Sources suggest the Lakers were interested in Collins, but they are no longer pursuing the Utah forward.

On June 24, NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer confirmed that the Lakers are not engaged in talks for Collins, despite circulating rumors. According to Stein, “Utah is open to trading Collins this offseason, but his market is still forming and might not take shape until after the draft.”

Collins, who has historically been featured in trade discussions, was dealt to the Jazz last July after spending six seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. He has a player option worth $26.6 million for the upcoming season.

While the Lakers have shown no interest in Collins, the team appears to be targeting Kessler, a less expensive option compared to Collins. “Giving up multiple picks to get there is on the table right now. I don’t know if the Jazz take it,” said Salt Lake Tribune’s Andy Larsen.

Kessler is in the final season of his current deal and will become a restricted free agent if an extension is not signed. The Lakers could find Kessler’s trade value more appealing than Collins due to his affordability and promising potential.

As trade talks heat up, the Lakers continue to look for ways to bolster their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
