Las Vegas Man Brandon Durham Killed by Police in His Home After Calling 911 for Help
In a tragic and controversial incident, Brandon Durham, a 43-year-old Las Vegas resident, was shot and killed by a police officer in his own home after he called 911 to report a potential home invasion. The incident occurred in the early hours of November 12, when Durham called for help, stating that someone had broken into his home.
Newly released police bodycam video shows Durham struggling with an intruder, later identified as 31-year-old Alejandra Boudreaux, over a knife. Boudreaux was wearing a red hoodie, while Durham was shirtless. Durham’s 15-year-old daughter was home at the time but was not at the scene, having been instructed by her father to hide in her room.
Officer Alexander Bookman entered the home and ordered the pair to drop the knife before firing his weapon. Durham was struck and fell to the floor, and Bookman then fired five more rounds. Durham was pronounced dead at the scene.
The family of Brandon Durham is demanding answers and justice, calling for criminal charges against Officer Bookman. Civil rights attorney Lee Merritt, representing the Durham family, has stated that an arrest warrant should be issued immediately and that a grand jury should return an indictment for homicide against the officer.
Alejandra Boudreaux, the intruder, faces multiple charges, including home invasion with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, and child abuse. According to police documents, Boudreaux and Durham had an ongoing casual sexual relationship, and she had expressed a desire to be shot by police after feeling suicidal for several days.
The Las Vegas Metro Police Department is investigating the incident, and Officer Bookman is currently on paid administrative leave. The investigation, which could take 30 to 90 days, will determine whether Bookman acted appropriately or should face criminal charges.
