Loblaw Signs Canada’s Grocery Code of Conduct in Support of Fair Industry Practices
Loblaw Companies Limited (TSX: L; “Loblaw”) announced today its support for Canada’s Grocery Code of Conduct as part of its commitment to promoting transparency in the country’s grocery industry. The decision, revealed at the Company’s Supplier Summit with over 1,300 suppliers, follows collaborative discussions held with the Code Interim Board and Working Group over the past six months.
Per Bank, President and CEO of Loblaw Companies Limited, expressed the company’s belief in the industry’s code of conduct, emphasizing the need for fairness among all participants. The Code aims to enhance the relationship between retailers and suppliers to better serve customers. The final step in this process is for all major industry players to endorse the Code.
The Grocery Code of Conduct was initiated by the Federal-Provincial and Territorial Ministers of Agriculture as a voluntary, industry-led initiative. The Code’s development, spanning over two years, involved collaboration from various grocery industry organizations, including retailers, processors, and manufacturers, to ensure support across the supply chain.
Michael Graydon, Chair of the Interim Board for the Code of Conduct, expressed satisfaction with Loblaw’s decision to participate in the initiative. The voluntary Code aims to create a fair and inclusive environment within the Canadian food system, supported by industry stakeholders across the supply chain.
Loblaw will continue its engagement with the industry to finalize and implement the Code, aiming to bring positive changes to Canada’s grocery industry.
