St. Louis Church Nonprofit Receives $1 Million for Tornado Victims

ST. LOUIS — The nonprofit arm of a north St. Louis church will distribute up to $1 million in state aid for residents displaced by the tornado that hit on May 16, local clergy announced Thursday.
Bishop Lee Scott of the Lively Stone Church of God, located on St. Louis Avenue, stated the funds can be used for rent, mortgages, utility bills, and home repairs. Scott encouraged residents to apply quickly, as the aid comes from a statewide program that also benefits those affected by recent storms in Missouri.
Applications for the assistance will be available, and case workers are prepared to expedite the distribution of funds. The announcement was made at a press conference outside Westside Missionary Baptist Church on Page Boulevard.
Alderwomen Shameem Clark Hubbard and Laura Keys, representing the 10th and 11th wards, were present at the event. They were joined by the Rev. Dr. Linden Bowie of Zion Travelers Missionary Baptist Church and Adolphus Pruitt, president of the St. Louis City NAACP.
“Government, so far today, is working,” Pruitt said, highlighting the effort to support citizens in need.
