Luca Guadagnino After The Hunt Julia Roberts

LOS ANGELES, CA – Luca Guadagnino‘s psychological drama ‘After the Hunt’ is set to premiere on Prime Video on Nov. 20, just 41 days after its theatrical release. The R-rated film, which stars Julia Roberts as a college professor, explores the complex aftermath of a student’s allegations against a colleague, played by Andrew Garfield.

‘After the Hunt’ follows professor Alma, portrayed by Roberts, who faces a personal and professional crisis when her student, played by Ayo Edebiri, accuses a colleague of misconduct. As the tension rises, secrets from Alma’s past threaten to surface, adding to the film’s dramatic stakes. Written by Nora Garrett, the film made its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

The production budget for ‘After the Hunt’ is estimated between $70 million and $80 million, but it underperformed at the box office. With a total gross of only $3.2 million in the U.S. and an additional $6 million overseas, the film’s financial struggle has raised eyebrows in the industry.

Alongside Roberts, Garfield, and Edebiri, the cast features Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny. Producers Brian Grazer, Guadagnino, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum are among the team behind the film. Garrett served as the executive producer alongside Karen Lunder and Justin Wilkes.

‘After the Hunt’ faced mixed reviews, earning a 37% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. While some praised the performances, many criticized its handling of sensitive themes, describing it as a missed opportunity in addressing critical issues from the #MeToo movement.

Despite the reception, Guadagnino has already shifted focus to other projects, including ‘Artificial,’ a biopic about OpenAI‘s CEO Sam Altman, starring Garfield. The director aims to continue pushing boundaries in his film career.
