On August 24, 2024, Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Luis Guillorme made headlines with an impressive defensive play during the team’s matchup against the Boston Red Sox.

Guillorme exhibited remarkable athleticism as he dove, Superman-style, to make a critical catch in the four-hole, preventing a potential base hit. His quick reflexes allowed him to spin onto his back and deliver a precise one-hop throw to first base, successfully retiring Masataka Yoshida who was running down the line.

The Diamondbacks’ social media team highlighted the stunning play, which energized both the team and fans. The play occurred during a scoreless seventh inning, after Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen had completed six impressive frames, solidifying his role as an ace for the team.

Guillorme recently joined the Diamondbacks after the team placed Ketel Marte on the 10-day injured list due to an ankle sprain. Providing veteran experience, Guillorme has played seven seasons in the Major Leagues and is known for his reliability in the infield.

Prior to this standout defensive moment, the 29-year-old infielder had also secured his first hit with the Diamondbacks, a double off the famous Green Monster during a game the previous day, which the team won decisively with a score of 12-2.

As the game progressed, the Diamondbacks went on to win against the Red Sox 4-1, marking a memorable outing for both the pitcher and Guillorme in his new team uniform.
