2.8-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Buckingham, Virginia Region

BUCKINGHAM, Va. (WWBT) – A 2.8-magnitude earthquake shook parts of Virginia on Tuesday afternoon. The earthquake centered in Buckingham County, about 5 miles south of Dillwyn and 55 miles west of Richmond.
This quake was located roughly 38 miles east of Lynchburg and 38 miles south of Charlottesville. Residents felt the tremors shortly after noon.
This incident follows a recent small earthquake near Short Pump. Though many reported feeling the shake, there have been no immediate reports of damage.
The National Earthquake Information Center monitors such events and encourages residents to report if they experienced the quake or recorded it on security cameras. Reports of personal experiences and any captured footage are welcomed.
Authorities are advising the public to stay safe and prepare for potential aftershocks.
