Magnitude 3.2 Earthquake Strikes Off Rancho Palos Verdes Coast

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. — A preliminary 3.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Rancho Palos Verdes on Sunday evening at approximately 8:27 p.m., the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The quake was centered about two miles west of the coastal community and occurred at a depth of nearly 11 miles.
Dozens of residents along the coast reported feeling the quake, utilizing the USGS’s “Did You Feel It?” feature, which allows individuals to indicate whether they experienced shaking in their location. Reports came in from various locations, including Santa Monica, Huntington Beach, and even as far east as La Mirada.
The earthquake follows a series of seismic activities along the Los Angeles County coastline, which has experienced at least eight tremors larger than 2.5 magnitude in recent months. Many local residents of Rancho Palos Verdes have been facing ongoing challenges, as a separate landslide issue has forced some families to evacuate the area due to potential hazards.
A smaller 2.9 magnitude earthquake was reported earlier on Sunday in Malibu at around 3:35 a.m. No significant damage or injuries were reported from either incident.
For updates and safety tips, residents are encouraged to stay informed through local news and official channels. As seismic activity remains a concern in the region, residents are reminded to prepare emergency kits to ensure the safety of themselves and their families during unforeseen events.
