Boston Blue Series Premiere Character Sean Reagan

BOSTON, MA — Fans of the hit show ‘Blue Bloods‘ were surprised by a significant casting change during the premiere of its spinoff, ‘Boston Blue,’ on Friday, October 17, 2025. The role of Sean Reagan, once played by Andrew Terraciano, has been taken over by Mika Amonsen.

In this new series, Donnie Wahlberg reprises his role as Detective Danny Reagan, who has moved to Boston and works alongside Detective Lena Silver, portrayed by an undisclosed actress from a prominent law enforcement family. The Silver family includes Boston District Attorney Mae Silver and Police Superintendent Sarah Silver.

According to co-creators Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, the decision to recast Sean was made to reflect the character’s evolution. Margolis stated, “We wanted a slightly different version of Sean,” adding that Amonsen’s portrayal would transform the character into a more ambitious rookie cop.

The show’s premiere opens with Sean and fellow rookie officer Jonah Silver witnessing a dangerous fire while out with friends. The incident leads Sean to the hospital, facilitating Danny’s arrival in Boston. Danny’s commitment as a father and his decision to stay in Boston as long as Sean needs him add depth to the storyline.

The reimagined character, now a police officer, raises unique challenges for Danny, who is a father to a cop for the first time. The creators wanted to convey the dynamic change and opportunities for fresh storytelling. Arguably, this decision to recast was a bold move, aimed at modernizing the tale for ‘Boston Blue.’

The series, airing Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, emphasizes the Reagans’ family bonds while tackling issues that modern law enforcement faces. Despite the risks involved in recasting a beloved character, the creators believe it was essential for a successful launch.
