Mega Millions Jackpot Reaches $90 Million Ahead of Drawing

ATLANTA, Ga. — The Mega Millions jackpot has climbed to an estimated $90 million for the drawing on Tuesday, May 6, following no winners from the previous draw on Friday, May 2.
Players have the option to claim a cash prize of $40.8 million if they match all six numbers drawn. The drawing will take place just after 11 p.m. ET, and results will be available shortly afterward.
This year, there have already been three Mega Millions winners, including a single ticket that won a $112 million jackpot. The most recent big win occurred on March 25, when a player from Illinois took home $344 million.
The winning numbers for the May 6 drawing are: 16, 17, 43, 46, 58, and the Mega Ball is 16. Despite anticipation, no tickets matched all five white balls with the Mega Ball, meaning the jackpot will increase to $100 million for the next drawing.
Purchasing a Mega Millions ticket costs $5, and players can select six numbers from two sets: five white balls numbered 1 to 70 and one gold Mega Ball numbered 1 to 24. Many players choose the Quick Pick option, in which numbers are generated randomly by the lottery machine.
Recent updates to the game include a free built-in multiplier that can increase non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times, replacing the previous Megaplier option. Drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday, and tickets can be purchased at convenience stores, gas stations, and grocery stores, as well as online in some states.
The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are approximately 1 in 290,472,336. Winners can choose between an annuity payment spread over 30 years or a lump-sum cash payout.
