Melania Trump and Usha Vance Visit North Carolina Military Families
JACKSONVILLE, North Carolina — First Lady Melania Trump and Second Lady Usha Vance visited North Carolina military families on November 19, 2025, as part of their pre-Thanksgiving outreach. This marked their first public joint appearance since the start of the Trump-Vance administration.
The two women met with service members and their families at Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River. Their visit focused on expressing gratitude for military service, especially as the holiday season approaches.
During their time at Lejeune High School, Trump emphasized children’s well-being and the responsible use of technology such as artificial intelligence. Students at the school participated in the presidential AI challenge and showcased how they utilize AI for school projects.
Vance promoted children’s literacy as she engaged with younger children at DeLalio Elementary School. Trump, wearing a playful headband, joined the kids in reading activities, telling them they would be welcome to visit her at the White House.
During closing remarks, Vance praised Trump for her commitment to bettering the nation by ensuring every child feels loved and prepared for their future. “I’m honored to introduce our first lady, who shares my deep gratitude for your sacrifices to secure our country’s safety,” she said.
While it’s unclear how often Trump and Vance have interacted privately, both appear to be fostering a collaborative relationship in their public roles, appearing together at various events since their husbands took office.
At Marine Corps Air Station New River, Trump highlighted the importance of military readiness, stating, “Technology is changing the art of war. Predictably, AI will alter war more profoundly than any technology since nuclear weapons.” This remark underscores the intersection of technology and military operations as the nation marks the Marine Corps’ 250th anniversary.
As both women look to address various issues, Trump has recently resumed public engagements focused on children’s welfare and AI safety, while Vance actively supports literacy initiatives, aiming to inspire young readers across the country.
