Miami Cold Weather January 2025

MIAMI – Temperatures in Miami dropped to their lowest levels in two years early Thursday, with overnight lows in the 40s. The chilly weather, the coldest since January 2023, prompted meteorologists to advise residents to bundle up as daytime highs were expected to reach only the upper 60s.

The cold snap is linked to a strong cold front associated with a low-pressure system that brought significant snowfall to parts of the mid-Mississippi and Ohio valleys, as well as the mid-Atlantic region. Washington D.C.’s Reagan National Airport recorded 7.2 inches of snow earlier in the week.

National Weather Service meteorologists in Miami noted that while the 45-degree temperature in West Palm Beach did not break the record low for January 9, it was 13 degrees below normal. The wind chill made it feel like the upper 30s, marking the coldest air the region has experienced since January 2023, when temperatures ranged from 40 to 43 degrees over three days.

Residents can expect a return to more typical South Florida weather by Friday afternoon, with east-to-southeast winds pushing temperatures into the mid-70s. However, another cold front is forecast to arrive as early as Saturday, bringing another round of cooler weather.

Betty Davis, chief certified meteorologist for Local 10, emphasized the unusual nature of the cold spell. “This is a significant drop for South Florida,” she said. “While it’s not record-breaking, it’s certainly a reminder that even tropical regions can experience winter weather.”

Julie Durda, a meteorologist with Local 10, added, “The rapid shifts in temperature are a hallmark of winter in Florida. Residents should stay prepared for these fluctuations.”

For those looking to stay updated on the forecast, signing up for daily weather emails is recommended. The next few days will see a mix of chilly mornings and warmer afternoons, with Saturday’s high expected to reach 80 degrees before another cool-down next week.
