Michael Keaton on Potential Vulture Return: “I Haven’t Talked to Anybody”
Michael Keaton, known for his role as Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. Vulture, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), recently provided an update on the Spider-Man villain’s potential future appearances. Keaton first portrayed Vulture in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” marking Spider-Man’s initial full-fledged supervillain adversary in the MCU. Following the character’s incarceration, a multiversal incident initiated by Doctor Strange led to Vulture’s transition into Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, notably appearing with Michael Morbius, as depicted in “Morbius.”
In a discussion with Screen Rant concerning his forthcoming film “Goodrich,” Michael Keaton indicated that he has not engaged in any dialogue about reprising his role as Vulture. While Keaton did not outright dismiss the prospects of returning in either the MCU or Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, he confirmed that no discussions are currently underway. “I haven’t talked to anybody about anything,” Keaton stated. He humorously added, “I try not to talk to anybody. I really don’t like people.”
The possibility of any Marvel character’s return, regardless of their status, remains a constant in the franchise. However, the challenge for Keaton’s Vulture involves his current placement in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe post-“Morbius.” Without assistance, returning to the MCU’s primary dimension, Earth-616, poses a considerable hurdle, given the complexities of multiversal travel. This task typically requires advanced magic or technology, limited to entities like Doctor Strange or the TVA, with characters such as Kang the Conqueror having the known means to navigate between timelines.
The narrative forecasts for future Spider-Man films suggest a continuation of multiversal explorations. Characters including Venom, and potentially Spider-Man variants from “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” may play significant roles in bridging different universes. This interconnectivity could provide a pathway for Vulture to ultimately return to the MCU from Sony’s Universe, possibly opening the stage for team-ups with other villains.
Despite Michael Keaton’s statement on his current detachment from studio conversations, Marvel actors are often bound by confidentiality agreements that prevent them from revealing upcoming roles or projects. Should Keaton’s Vulture be slated to appear in any upcoming productions, whether MCU-associated or under Sony’s banner, such announcements will likely remain under wraps until just prior to release.
