Michigan Man Wins $476,728 Fantasy 5 Jackpot on a Whim

COMSTOCK PARK, Michigan — A 63-year-old man from Kent County won a massive $476,728 Fantasy 5 jackpot after breaking away from his usual lottery routine. The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, matched the winning numbers drawn on Sept. 18: 02-21-29-36-38.

Typically, he plays Fantasy 5 regularly with only one ticket, but with the high jackpot, he decided to buy a few extra for this particular drawing. “After the drawings, I always check the winning numbers online,” he said in a statement. “If the jackpot is won, I look to see where the winning ticket was sold.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Alpine E-Z Mart, located at 3623 Alpine Avenue Northwest in Comstock Park. The day after the drawing, he realized the jackpot was won at the same store where he bought his tickets. “I got my tickets out of my car to check them and was blown away when I saw I was the winner,” he recalled.

The jackpot winner plans to save his winnings for retirement. “I’m not ready to retire yet, but when I am in a few years, this prize is going to be a nice financial cushion during retirement,” he said.

Each Fantasy 5 play is $1, with the option to add EZmatch or Double Play for an extra $1, providing additional chances to win instant cash prizes. Drawings are held every night at 7:29 p.m., with ticket sales ending at 7:08 p.m.
