Mid Autumn Festival Vietnam Fruit Market

The arrival of the Mid-Autumn Festival, a significant cultural celebration in Vietnam, has led to a bustling atmosphere in fruit wholesale markets across the country. As the three-day holiday begins, traders have reported a noticeable surge in fruit sales, particularly earlier this week. However, a lull in purchasing activity was observed towards the end of the week, leading to a slight reduction in some fruit prices. Compared to the previous year, the festival’s market trends are consistent, though modest price increases for some fruits have been noted.

Among the popular fruits for this festive season are Qiuyue pears, soft-seeded pomegranates, apples, durians, Xinjiang plums, and plum-leaf crabs. Gift boxes have also proven a popular choice among consumers. Since early September, apple prices have risen by approximately 5%, attributed to high demand and limited supply. Despite the price changes, apples remain a favored choice, especially when packaged attractively in gift boxes.

Notably, imported oranges and apples in gift boxes have maintained stable prices, with sales not meeting initial expectations despite a shift in trader preferences from Cambria to sweet oranges to reduce costs. A recent shipment of Peruvian blueberries brought larger quantities to the market, yet demand continues to outpace supply, keeping prices elevated.

The Xinjiang plum-leaf crabs have also seen a stable market performance. High-quality fruits are fetching higher prices compared to mid-grade varieties, which have seen subdued demand. Improved climate conditions in production areas have positively impacted the quality of these fruits this year.

As for Qiuyue pears and soft-seeded pomegranates, their abundant harvests have resulted in a price drop, slowing down sales. The best Qiuyue pears are now priced at approximately ¥55 per box. In contrast, Thai durians are in high demand, seeing fluctuating prices throughout the week. Although prices dropped mid-week due to increased supply, traders anticipate a potential rise as the weekend approaches.

The enticing market developments are a testament to the cultural importance of the Mid-Autumn Festival in Vietnam, where fruits symbolize prosperity and are integral to the festivities.
