Mike Brown Receives Second Interview for Knicks Coaching Job

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Knicks will interview Mike Brown, a two-time NBA Coach of the Year, for a second time as they look to replace Tom Thibodeau, a source familiar with the situation told The Associated Press Monday.
Brown’s second interview marks him as the first known candidate to proceed beyond initial discussions for the position, which has been unfilled for nearly a month. Other potential candidates, including former Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins and assistants James Borrego of New Orleans and Micah Nori of Minnesota, may also be considered for a return interview.
The Knicks’ decision to bring back Brown stems from his successful track record. He led the Sacramento Kings to the playoffs in 2023, marking the franchise’s first postseason appearance since 2006. Over his time with the Kings, Brown amassed a record of 107 wins and 88 losses before being fired in the recent past.
Additionally, Brown previously won the NBA Coach of the Year award in 2009 while coaching the Cleveland Cavaliers. Throughout his career, he holds a robust coaching record of 454 wins and 304 losses.
Thibodeau, who was fired on June 3, propelled the Knicks to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years. Like Brown, he has earned NBA Coach of the Year recognition with two different teams.
