Ministry Of Information And Broadcasting Seeks Permission To Share Broadcasting Bill Consultation Responses

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has taken a proactive step in response to requests under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005. The MIB recently reached out to various individuals and organisations involved in the consultation process for the Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill, 2023, seeking their permission to share their consultation responses.

Consultations play a crucial role in democratic decision-making processes. Transparency in these processes is vital for fostering meaningful dialogue and understanding among stakeholders. By seeking permission to disclose the consultation responses, MIB aims to enhance transparency and accountability in the consultation process surrounding the Broadcasting Bill.

Publication of consultation responses allows for a more thorough analysis and critique of the diverse perspectives presented by stakeholders. It also enables interested parties to engage in informed discussions based on the comments received during the consultation period.

While safeguarding the personal information of individual stakeholders is paramount, MIB intends to release the consultation responses publicly after redacting any personally identifiable information (PII). However, the names of organisations providing comments will be retained to ensure transparency regarding their policy positions.

Stakeholders and the public at large stand to benefit from access to a diverse range of perspectives on the Broadcasting Bill. Proactively making these consultation responses available promotes openness, accountability, and constructive engagement in the policymaking process.
